LONDON, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Michael Phelps of the United States came from behind Friday to win the final individual race of his swimming career, claiming gold in the 100-meter butterfly.

There was a dead heat for second place with both Chad le Clos of South Africa and Evegeny Korotyshkin of Russia winning silver medals.

Phelps has 17 Olympic gold medals and 21 overall in his three appearances at the Games. No one in history had won the same swimming event in three straight Olympics until these Games and Phelps has now done it twice.
