MLB: New York Yankees 6, Seattle 3

NEW YORK, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia struck out 10 in a complete-game victory and Eric Chavez belted a two-run homer Friday in the New York Yankees' 6-3 win over Seattle.

Sabathia (11-3) fired his second complete game of the season and the 35th of his career, holding the Mariners to three runs on three hits while issuing a single walk.

Chavez's blast in the sixth inning increased the Yankees' lead to 4-1 while Curtis Granderson contributed a pair of RBI as the American League East leaders took the opener of a three-game series.

Seattle's Kevin Millwood (4-9) was touched for four runs on nine hits in a six-inning start.

Dustin Ackley launched a two-run homer and Casper Wells added a solo blast to account for the Mariners' scoring.
