LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers Friday acquired right-handed pitcher Joe Blanton from Philadelphia in exchange for a player to be named later.

Blanton, 31, a nine-year veteran with a record of 8-9 and an ERA of 4.59 ERA this season, will likely take the fifth spot in the LA rotation as the Dodgers battle the San Francisco Giants for the National League West title during the final two months of the season.
