LONDON, July 30 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Im Dong-Hyun of South Korea moved into the round of 16 Monday in the Olympic individual archery competition.
Five archers earned spots in the round of 16 with more positions to be filled over the next two days.
Im, who is legally blind, eliminated Cheng-Pang Wang of Taiwan 6-4, becoming the first South Korean to move into the final 16. South Korea missed out on a gold medal in the team competition when, after setting a world record in qualifying, it fell in the semifinals to the United States. The Koreans settled for a bronze medal.
Im will meet Rick van der Ven of the Netherlands in the next round.
Also advancing to the round of 16 Monday were Markiyan Ivashko of Ukraine, Cheng Wei Kuo of Taiwan and Larry Godfrey of Britain.
The top player to reach the round of 16 in the women's draw Monday was No. 13 Aida Roman of Mexico, who defeated Devi Bombayla Laishram of India.
