Dez Bryant's mother won't press charges

DALLAS, July 23 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant's mother, who called police while he was allegedly assaulting her, won't press charges against him, prosecutors say.

Jamille Bradfield, spokeswoman for District Attorney Craig Watkins, told the Dallas Morning News in an e-mail Angela Bryant has filed "an affidavit of non-prosecution" against her 23-year-old son.

Angela Bryant called police July 14 saying the Cowboys receiver grabbed her, ripped her T-shirt and bra, pulled her hair and slapped her across the face with a cap, a police affidavit said.

In a 911 call to police she was heard to say: "I can't keep letting him do me like this. I'm tired. I'm going to put an end to it today."

While his mother isn't proceeding with assault charges, DeSoto, Texas, police did formally enter a Class A misdemeanor charge of family violence against Dez Bryant Monday, but it was unclear whether a prosecution could proceed without the cooperation of the alleged victim, the newspaper said.

Class A misdemeanor in Texas is punishable by a fine and as much as a year in jail. Bryant could face punishment under the National Football League's personal conduct policy if convicted.
