MLB: St. Louis 7, Chicago Cubs 0

ST. LOUIS, July 22 (UPI) -- Lance Lynn baffled the Cubs for six innings and John Jay went 4-for-4 Sunday in the St. Louis Cardinals' series-sweeping 7-0 win over Chicago.

Lynn (12-4) scattered four hits and overcame three walks while striking out five. The right-hander didn't a allow a runner as far as third base.

Fernando Salas and Marc Rzepczynski combined for three scoreless frames to complete the shutout and the dominating three straight victories, during which the Cardinals outscored the Cubs 22-1.

Jay had a two-run, first-inning double among his four hits. Matt Holliday and Carlos Beltran added solo homers for St. Louis.

Cubs starter Travis Wood (4-5) was roughed up for seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in a six-inning effort.
