WASHINGTON, July 18 (UPI) -- Jordan Zimmermanb threw six shutout innings Wednesday and Adam LaRoche hit a two-run homer, bringing the Washington Nationals a 4-3 win over the New York Mets.

LaRoche put Washington in front with his home run in the sixth and Stephen Lombardozzi added a two-run double for the Nationals in the seventh.

Washington, cruising along with the most victories in the National League, won its second straight.

New York's runs came on an RBI single in the seventh by Andres Torres off Tom Gorzelanny and the ninth-inning homers from David Wright and Jason Bay off Tyler Clippard.

Despite giving up the two long balls, Clippard registered his 15th save.

The loss went to Chris Young (2-4), who battled Zimmermann on even terms until LaRoche hit his home run.
