MLB: New York Yankees 6, Toronto 1

NEW YORK, July 17 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia hurled six shutout innings and Andruw Jones belted a three-run homer Tuesday in the New York Yankees' 6-1 victory over Toronto.

Sabathia (10-3), making his first start since June 24 due to a groin strain, showed few ill effects from his stint on the disabled list, scattering four hits while walking one and striking out six.

Four New York relievers combined to hold Toronto to one run over 3 1/3 innings and Rafael Soriano recorded the final two outs for his 24th save as the American League East-leading Yankees won for the eighth time in nine games.

Jones' shot in the second inning opened the scoring while Derek Jeter went 2-for-4 with an RBI for New York, which has won the first two games of the three-game series.

Toronto starter Brett Cecil (2-2) was touched for three runs on six hits over six full frames.

Colby Rasmus supplied the Blue Jays' only RBI.
