MLB: Detroit 7, Minnesota 3

DETROIT, July 5 (UPI) -- Prince Fielder hit a three-run homer and Delmon Young added a solo shot Thursday in the Detroit Tigers' 7-3 win over Minnesota.

The Twins carried a 3-2 lead into the eighth, behind the pitching of starter Scott Diamond, who allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts over seven innings, but reliever Alex Burnett (2-1) gave up a one-out triple to Austin Jackson and then walked pinch-hitter Quintin Berry before Miguel Cabrera drove in Jackson with a single to center.

Tyler Robertson came on to relieve Burnett and served up the three-run shot to Fielder -- his 13th home run of the season. Anthony Swarzak came on for Robertson and gave up the solo homer to Young, his seventh home run of the season.

The victory gave the Tigers a split in their four-game series with Minnesota and their fourth win in six games overall.

Detroit starter Rick Porcello went 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on 12 hits with one walk and no strikeouts. He left the game after being hit by a line drive.
