MLB: Toronto 4, Kansas City 1

TORONTO, July 4 (UPI) -- Carlos Villanueva threw six shutout innings Wednesday and Yunel Escobar drove in two runs to bring the Toronto Blue Jays a 4-1 decision over Kansas City.

Villanueva (3-0) was recently called up to help an injury-depleted Toronto pitching corps. This was his third appearance and second start and he has won each time he has taken the mound.

Escobar also had an RBI single in the seventh for the game's final run.

Luis Mendoza (3-5) allowed three runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts over six innings to suffer the loss.
