Chipper Jones named to all-star team

NEW YORK, July 3 (UPI) -- Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was named to his eighth All-Star Game Tuesday, replacing the injured Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jones, 40, got the nod in what he has announced will be his final season as an active player.

Jones -- who was in contention for a fan vote to determine the final National League all-star squad member -- is hitting .291 with six homers and 29 RBI this season.

Kemp was forced to miss the competition due to a hamstring injury but will participate in the home run derby.
