MLB: New York Mets 17, Chicago Cubs 1

CHICAGO, June 27 (UPI) -- David Wright drove in five runs and three other Mets had four RBI Wednesday in New York's 17-1 romp over the Chicago Cubs.

New York had a pair of six-run rallies and a three-run outburst that broke a 1-1 tie.

Ike Davis, Scott Hairston and Daniel Murphy each had four RBI in the game. Murphy hit a pair of home runs while Davis and Hairston also had home runs.

Jon Niese (6-3) scattered eight hits and one walks across seven innings in taking the win. He struck out six. Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija gave up nine runs on four walks and six inning in 4 1/3 innings.

Wright's sacrifice fly in the first opened the scoring and he doubled in two runs and scored on an Ike Davis home run in the six-run fifth. Hairston's grand slam highlighted the New York sixth, which included a two-run double by Wright.

Murphy hit a two-run home run in the fourth and a solo shot in the fifth for his first two home runs of the season.

The Cubs run came in the second inning with Luis Valbuena doubled in Darwin Barney.
