MLB: Houston 5, San Diego 3

HOUSTON, June 27 (UPI) -- Jordan Lyles held San Diego to one run Tuesday and staked the Houston Astros to a 5-3 victory over the Padres.

Lyles (2-4) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and four walks. Brett Meyers earned 17th save despite allowing two San Diego runs in the bottom of the ninth.

The victory ended a personal three-game losing streak for Lyles and gave Houston its third win in its last four games.

J.D. Martinez led the Houston offense with a two-run homer. Jed Lowrie added a solo homer and scored twice.

Will Venable hit a solo homer for San Diego. Chase Headley drove in two runs with a single.

Kip Wells (0-1) took the loss in his first Major League appearance since 2009. Wells surrendered five runs – two earned – on seven hits and three walks in five innings.
