MLB: Baltimore 2, Washington 1

BALTIMORE, June 24 (UPI) -- Matt Wieters pounded a two-run homer in the eighth inning Sunday, rallying the Baltimore Orioles to a 2-1 interleague victory over Washington.

With the O's trailing 1-0 entering the frame, Adam Jones led off with a single off Sean Burnett (0-1) and Wieters followed by slamming an 0-1 pitch deep into the Orioles' bullpen in left-center field for the decisive blow.

The comeback handed a victory to Pedro Strop (4-2), who recorded the final out of the eighth inning.

Jim Johnson collected his 22nd save for Baltimore, which took the rubber match of their three-game rivalry series against the Nationals.

Starter Jake Arrieta issued one run over six innings for second-place Baltimore, which entered the contest 2 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East.

Ross Detweiler blanked the O's on four hits over five innings for National League East-leading Washington.
