SAINTE-JULIE, Quebec, June 22 (UPI) -- Russ Cochran suffered a lone bogey Friday and seized a two-shot lead after one round of the Montreal Championship.

Cochran, who will defend his Senior British Open title next month, posted a 6-under 66 at the Vallee du Richelieu Vercheres course. He hit 14 greens in regulation while turning in his second-lowest score on the Champions Tour this year.

The large group at 3-under 69 included Peter Senior, Mark Calcavecchia, 67-year-old Hale Irwin, Mark Brooks and defending U.S. Senior Open champion Olin Browne.
