CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 21 (UPI) -- Free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress is interested in playing for the Carolina Panthers, but a team official says he does not figure into their plans.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, dismissed signing the 6-foot-5 Burress, arguably the biggest free agent on the market, who turns 34 years old in August and who played for the New York Jets last year after serving two years in prison on a weapons charge, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer said Wednesday.
Burress' told WFNZ-AM his family lives in the Charlotte area and in South Carolina, and that "it would be a great situation all the way around," adding his admiration for Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton, who he called "one of the five best quarterbacks in all of football."
