ATLANTA, June 20 (UPI) -- Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy will undergo reconstructive elbow surgery and will miss the rest of the season, the team said Wednesday.

Beachy, who led the National League in earned run average for much of the season, will have "Tommy John" ligament replacement surgery Thursday.

The operation to replace Beachy's partially torn ulnar collateral ligament will be overseen by Dr. James Andrews.

The second-year hurler sported a major league-best 2.00 ERA with a 5-5 record for the Braves, allowing 49 hits in 81 innings.

His spot on the roster was filled by former all-star pitcher Jair Jurrjens, who was promoted from Class AAA Gwinnett, where he went 3-4 with a 5.18 ERA.
