SEATTLE, June 17 (UPI) -- Justin Smoak's single in the bottom of the ninth drove in the winning run Sunday, handing Seattle a 2-1 interleague decision over San Francisco.
Jesus Montero singled off Sergio Romo (2-1) and ended up at second base with one out in the ninth. Munenori Kawasaki came in to pinch-run for him and took off for home when Smoak lined a pitch to left off Javier Lopez.
Left-fielder Melky Cabrera had a chance to make a play at the plate, but his throw hit Kawasaki and bounced away, allowing him to score the game-winner.
Smoak's hit made a winner of Tom Wilhelmsen (3-1), who pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.
Mariners starter Felix Hernandez allowed only one run on six hits over seven frames, and San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner matched him, also yielding just a single run on three hits over an eight-inning effort.
Angel Pagan drove in the only run for the Giants, who lost two of three in the series.
