Woods rallies at Memorial, ties Nicklaus

DUBLIN, Ohio, June 3 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods charged from behind Sunday, firing a 5-under-par 67 to win The Memorial and tie Jack Nicklaus for second on the all-time victories list with 73.

The former world No. 1 entered the day in fourth place, four shots off the pace, but used a strong closing stretch with three birdies in his final four holes to bolt past Rory Sabbatini for the victory.

He ended the tournament at 9-under 279. Sabbatini (72) and Andres Romero (67) finished knotted for second at 7-under 281

The key to Woods' triumph came while he was a trailing Sabbatini by a stroke on No. 16 and drained a 50-foot, downhill chip shot for a birdie, eliciting an emotional fist-pump.

Sabbatini bogeyed the same hole, allowing Woods to grab the lead for good.

Third-round leader Spencer Levin missed a chance for his first PGA Tour win, stumbling to a 3-over 75. He finished tied with Daniel Summerhays (69) for fourth place at minus-5.
