MINNEAPOLIS, June 1 (UPI) -- The conviction of Amy Senser, wife of former Minnesota Vikings player Joe Senser, in a hit-and-run death will stand, a judge ruled.
After hearing about 35 minutes of arguments Thursday by prosecutors and defense attorneys, Hennepin County District Judge Daniel Mabley said he saw no reason to toss guilty verdicts on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and grant Amy Senser a new trial, the St. Paul Pioneer Planet reported Friday.
The ruling means Senser, 45, of Edina, will be sentenced July 9 for the death of Anousone Phanthavong, 38, of Roseville.
Mabley noted that during the trial he had denied issues similar to those raised by the defense and said Senser's attorneys didn't give him good or new reasons to reverse his decision.
Her attorneys said they would appeal.
Senser struck and killed the Twin Cities area chef about 11 p.m. Aug. 23 as he stood beside his car on an Interstate 94 exit ramp in Minneapolis.
She was convicted May 3 on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide, one for leaving the scene of the crash and the other for failing to notify police as quickly as possible. She also was convicted on a misdemeanor offense of careless driving.
Senser, who could get up to four years in prison, testified that she didn't stop because she didn't know she had hit a person or damaged a vehicle.
