Company offers huge Olympics discounts

LONDON, June 1 (UPI) -- British company Thomas Cook is offering Olympic hospitality packages, which had been expected to sell for up to $10,000, for discounted rates as low as $152.

The company had offered the packages for corporate customers during the Summer Games -- starting July 27 -- but because of unexpectedly low sales they are going to the public at greatly reduced rates, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

The original packages included a stay at a five-star hotel, with corporate hospitality services and meals. The discounted offers involve cheaper hotels, without the extras.

"U.K. corporations are less interested in buying our Olympics packages. Maybe their profits are stretched or they think they shouldn't be buying these," said Sam Weihagen, interim chief executive of Thomas Cook. "We're transferring a lot of them to regular customers and there is huge demand."
