Police: Woman in Chapman's room robbed

PITTSBURGH, May 30 (UPI) -- A woman staying in the Pittsburgh hotel room of Cincinnati Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman was found bound and robbed, police said Wednesday.

A Pittsburgh police spokeswoman said Chapman, currently the Reds' closing relief pitcher, wasn't present when the woman was robbed shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Omni William Penn Hotel, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

The woman, identified as Claudia Manrique of Silver Spring, Md., told police a man gained entry into the room by posing as a hotel maintenance worker.

Other guests heard screams and found Manrique bound with cloth napkins in the room, where jewelry, clothing, a computer, credit cards and ID cards had been taken, police said.

The Reds were in Pittsburgh to play the Pirates.

Team spokesman Rob Butcher told the Post-Gazette in an e-mail the team was "aware of the hotel room robbery of one of our players and we are working with local law enforcement agencies."

Chapman, a 24-year-old, Cuban-born left-hander known for his 100 mph fastballs, was appointed Cincinnati's closer this month.

He has compiled a 4-0 record with three saves in 21 appearances this season.
