DAVIE, Fla., May 29 (UPI) -- HBO has chosen the Miami Dolphins to be featured on this season's "Hard Knocks," which gives an in-depth look at an NFL team's pre-season preparations.

Joe Philbin, who enters his first season as Dolphins' coach, announced the decision Tuesday.

"We thought it was in the best interest of the organization to do it at this time," Philbin said.

Miami lost its first seven games last season and ended up 6-10, which led to the firing of Coach Tony Sparano with three games left on the schedule. Philbin was hired Jan. 20.

The team is expected to have competition at quarterback during training camp with first-round draft pick Ryan Tannehill going against Matt Moore and David Garrard for the starting position.

The first Miami "Hard Knocks" episode is to air Aug. 7.

The 2012 edition is the seventh edition of "Hard Knocks." The Baltimore Ravens were featured in 2001 and the New York Jets were filmed in 2010. There was no 2011 edition.

Other teams previously on the program are the Dallas Cowboys (2002 and 2008), Kansas City Chiefs (2007) and Cincinnati Bengals (2009).
