Magglio Ordonez to retire

DETROIT, May 29 (UPI) -- Detroit Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez will announce his retirement Sunday at a pregame ceremony in Comerica Park.

Ordonez, 38, hit .307 with 187 homers and 703 RBI during his first eight years with the Chicago White Sox. He signed an $85 million contract for five years with the Tigers prior to the 2005 season.

His game-winning homer in Game 4 of the 2006 ALCS against Oakland sent Detroit to their first World Series since 1984. Ordonez he finishes his career with 2,156 hits, a .309 average, 294 homers and 1,236 RBI.
