MLB: Boston 6, Detroit 3

BOSTON, May 29 (UPI) -- Daniel Nava's bases-clearing double in the fourth inning gave Boston a four-run lead Tuesday and the Red Sox went on to post a 6-3 victory over Detroit.

With the Sox holding a 1-0 lead, Kevin Youkilis led off the fourth with a single, After Jerrod Saltalamacchia struck out, Mike Aviles and Scott Podsednik singled to fill the bases.

Nava then sliced a 3-2 pitch from Justin Verlander (5-3) into the left-field corner, scoring all three runners and putting the Red Sox in control.

David Ortiz went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in the contest, which was delayed by rain in the eighth inning at Fenway Park.

Daniel Bard (5-5) earned the victory, allowing two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings as the Red Sox won their second straight in a four-game series against the Tigers.

Alfredo Aceves collected his 12th save with a scoreless ninth.

Verlander suffered his second loss in two starts, yielding five runs on 10 hits over six innings.

Prince Fielder drove in a two runs, including a solo homer, and Jhonny Peralta added a bases-empty blast for Detroit.
