NEW YORK, May 25 (UPI) -- Dillon Gee struck out nine over seven innings Friday and won his second straight start in leading the New York Mets past San Diego 6-1.
Gee (4-3) kept up his rebound from recent troubles that saw him give up 11 runs on 18 hits in the two starts prior to his consecutive victories. He allowed the Padres only four hits, and Tim Byrdak and Ramon Ramirez then combined to give up a walk and strike out one over the final two innings.
New York overcame an early 1-0 deficit on a solo homer by Lucas Duda in the second and the Mets went in front for good in the third with Gee scoring the go-ahead run.
Mike Baxter doubled home Gee and then scored on a single by Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The Mets added three more in the fifth, an inning highlighted by a two-run single from Ike Davis.
The loss went to Anthony Bass (2-5), who surrendered six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
