BALTIMORE, May 23 (UPI) -- Kelly Shoppach and Daniel Nava each homered during a big sixth inning Wednesday that carried the Boston Red Sox to a 6-5 win over Baltimore.
Boston chased O's starter Jake Arrieta (2-5) when Nava connected for a two-out solo homer to break a 2-2 tie and Scott Podsednik singled.
Luis Ayala came in to pitch and Shoppach followed with a two-run shot for the Red Sox, who avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the American League East-leading Orioles.
Podsednik also went deep while Will Middlebrooks added two hits and an RBI for the Bosox.
Daniel Bard (4-5) collected the win after holding the O's to two runs and five hits over 5 1/3 frames.
Boston's Alfredo Aceves picked up his 11th save after Vicente Padilla allowed a run in the eighth.
Arietta was touched for four runs on five hits in a 5 2/3-inning stint.
Nick Johnson homered twice, driving in three runs for Baltimore.
