Orlando fires Stan Van Gundy

ORLANDO, Fla., May 21 (UPI) -- The Orlando Magic fired Coach Stan Van Gundy Monday and agreed to "part ways" with General Manager Otis Smith.

"These are the days you dread in this business, but we feel it's time for new leadership and new voices," Magic Chief Executive Officer Alex Martins said.

Van Gundy led the Magic to the playoffs in each of his five seasons as coach. The team was eliminated in the first round this year.

A report on the team's Web site said the Magic and Smith "mutually agreed to part ways."
