BALTIMORE, May 21 (UPI) -- Will Middlebrooks went 3-for-5 and drove in a run during a decisive seventh inning that rallied the Boston Red Sox to an 8-6 win over Baltimore.
The Red Sox were down 5-2 in the sixth when they scored three times to forge a tie. David Ortiz began the comeback with solo homer and Middlebrooks, who had singled, scored the equalizer on a Tommy Hunter's balk.
Then in the seventh, Adrian Gonzalez hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly off Kevin Gregg (2-2), handing the Red Sox the lead, and Middlebrooks followed with a run-scoring single for some insurance.
Andrew Miller (1-0) earned the victory and Alfredo Aceves racked up his 10th save in the victory.
Dustin Pedroia drove in a pair of runs for the Bosox, who won the first of a three-game set at Camden Yards.
Chris Davis knocked a solo homer for the American League East-leading O's.
