MLB: San Francisco 8, Oakland 6

SAN FRANCISCO, May 19 (UPI) -- Brandon Belt had three RBI while San Francisco was building a seven-run lead Friday and the Giants held on for an 8-6 victory over Oakland.

San Francisco survived a four-run Oakland sixth inning and the Giants' bull pen limited the A's to a lone hit over the final 3 1/3 frames.

Belt drove in a run with a second-inning single, drew a bases-loaded walk during San Francisco's four-run third and had a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Hector Sanchez also had a sacrifice fly and an RBI double for the Giants, who have won two in a row.

Starter Barry Zito (3-1) recorded the win despite giving up four runs on five hits over 5 1/3. Jarrod Parker (1-2) lasted just two innings, allowing six runs on four hits and four walks.

The game wrapped up the first day of interleague play in the 2012 season with the American League holding a 9-5 edge.

The opening round of action between the two leagues was an eventful one with Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Woods announcing his retirement and Detroit's Justin Verlander coming within two outs of recording his third no-hitter.
