CHICAGO, May 19 (UPI) -- Doctors said they found no serious damage after Chicago White Sox slugger Paul Konerko was beaned in Friday's game against the cross-town rival Cubs.
Konerko underwent a CT scan at Rush University Medical Center that indicated nothing other than a laceration and some swelling over his left eye.
Doctors said they would examine Konerko again Saturday to look for any signs of post-concussion symptoms.
Konerko was hit by a pitch from Jeff Samardzija in the third inning of the Sox's 3-2 victory. The 36-year-old clubhouse leader, who had homered in the first, was helped to the clubhouse and taken to the hospital.
"I came [into the clubhouse] the next inning to check on him," catcher A.J. Pierzynski told the Chicago Tribune. "His eye was pretty swelled up, but he was cognizant and didn't say he was dizzy or anything."
The White Sox adjusted to Konerko's departure by moving Adam Dunn to first base and bringing in Dayan Viced to play left.
