MLB: Arizona 9, Colorado 7

DENVER, May 17 (UPI) -- Justin Upton's two-run homer in the ninth highlighted a wild final two innings Thursday and gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a 9-7 victory over Colorado.

The Rockies held a 4-3 lead heading into the eighth, but the teams combined for nine runs over the last two frames in Arizona's second straight victory.

Arizona put together four RBI singles in the eighth from Willie Bloomquist, Jason Kubel, Paul Goldschmidt and Ryan Roberts -- the last three in succession -- to take a 7-4 advantage.

Colorado tied it with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, two of them unearned due to a fielding error by Roberts at third base.

Upton finally gave Arizona the win with his two-out blast in the ninth on a 1-2 pitch from Rafael Betancourt (1-1). Upton had struck out five times in his six previous at-bats against Betancourt.

J.J. Putz loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth before striking out Alex White and getting a game-ending double play off the bat of Ramon Hernandez.

The win went to Brad Ziegler (2-1), who posted the last out in the eighth inning. The save for Putz was his seventh.
