GLADSTONE, N.J., May 17 (UPI) -- Jodi Ewart turned in one of the upsets on the first day of the Sybase Match Play Championship Thursday, eliminating defending champ Suzann Pettersen.

Ewart recorded a 3-and-1 triumph over Pettersen at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club, rallying after the defending champion had won the first two holes.

Mariajo Uribe defeated Miyazato 2-up in the final match of the day, Jennifer Johnson was a 2-and-1 winner over Creamer and Ryann O'Toole ousted Lincicome 2-and-1.

World No. 1 Yani Tseng survived with a 1-up win over Jeong Jang, who missed a 6-foot putt on the 18th hole that would have extended the match.

Tseng will meet Katie Futcher Friday after Futcher defeated Chella Choi 4-and-3.

Among the 32 winners Friday were Cristie Kerr, Na Yeon Choi, Jessica Korda, Morgan Pressel, Stacy Lewis and last year's runner-up Angela Stanford.
