HOLLAND, Ohio, May 14 (UPI) -- A man was pronounced dead after taking a block to the chest during a semi-pro football game at a high school in Holland, Ohio.
David Coleman, 32, was an offensive lineman for the Jay County Panthers along with his brother Anthony. During a charity game Saturday, David was blindsided on a legal block, when the other player's helmet hit him in the chest.
He fell to the ground, struggling for a moment to get back on his feet before collapsing once more. On-site EMT workers rushed to resuscitate him.
"At first I thought he got his bell rung. I thought he would get back up and be all right," Anthony told the Toledo Blade. "But after a few moments, they rolled him over and I knew something was seriously wrong."
Anthony said the block that took David out was a legal block, and Panthers' coach Zeb Sutton agreed.
"It's a one in a trillion accident for a hit to cause a death," Sutton said.
David, a truck driver, leaves behind five daughters.
"You couldn't ask for a more caring guy," Anthony said. "He was a great father and a great person to sit and talk to."
