NEW YORK, May 14 (UPI) -- New York's Miguel Batista baffled the Brewers on four hits over seven shutout innings Monday in the Mets' 3-1 triumph over Milwaukee.
Batista (1-1) was dominant in his second start since replacing Chris Schwinden in the pitching rotation, scattering four hits while walking one and striking out five.
He fanned pinch-hitter George Kottaras with two on and two out to end the game after earlier yielding an RBI single to Corey Hart.
Daniel Murphy went 2-for-4 with and RBI single to lead the Mets' offense.
Yovani Gallardo (2-4) absorbed the loss. He allowed two runs on only two hits but issued six walks while striking out six over six frames.
