Hunter leaves Angels after son's arrest

LOS ANGELES, May 14 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Angels said Monday outfielder Torii Hunter has left the team as reports surfaced his son had been arrested in a sexual assault investigation.

An Angels spokesman would only say Hunter was placed on the restricted list indefinitely for "a personal reason," the Los Angeles Times reported.

A police statement cited by KXAS-TV, Dallas, indicated Hunter's 17-year-old son, Darius McClinton-Hunter, was among five high school students arrested Monday in Prosper, Texas.

Assistant Prosper Police Chief Gary McHone said authorities have charged McClinton-Hunter and three others with the sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony.

Another juvenile suspect was charged with unlawful restraint, McHone said.

Angels Manager Mike Scioscia indicated Hunter's status with the team was "day to day," the Times reported.

Outfielder Ryan Langerhans is likely to be recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake to fill Hunter's roster spot.
