MLB: Oakland 3, Detroit 1

OAKLAND, Calif., May 13 (UPI) -- Brandon McCarthy struck out 10 over seven shutout innings Saturday and the Oakland Athletics rode his performance to a 3-1 win over Detroit.

McCarthy (3-3) logged his third win in three starts for the A's, taming the Tigers on four hits without issuing a walk. The right-hander threw 66 of his 91 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 2.56.

Brian Fuentes nailed down the victory with his second save as the A's won their second straight from the Tigers and fifth in seven contests overall.

Daric Barton, Jonny Gomes and Cliff Pennington each drove in runs for Oakland.

Lack of run support made a loser of Detroit starter Doug Fister (0-1), who limited Oakland to one run on five hits over six frames while fanning eight A's batters.
