Ferrero, Youzhny take early Rome wins

ROME, May 13 (UPI) -- Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero and Mikhail Youzhny of Russia were among the first-round winners Sunday on Day 1 of the Italian Open.

Ferrero, a former world No. 1 and 2001 Italian Open winner, got past South Africa's Kevin Anderson 6-4, 7-5 on the clay courts of the Foro Italico in Rome.

Youzhny, meanwhile, defeated Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in another opening day match.

Also winning first-round contests were Italian wild card Paolo Lorenzi, Andreas Seppi of Italy, Serbia's Viktor Troicki and German Florian Mayer.
