MLB: Atlanta 7, St. Louis 2

ST. LOUIS, May 12 (UPI) -- Brandon Beachy allowed only two hits over six innings Saturday and the Atlanta Braves stayed hot with a 7-2 spanking of St. Louis.

Beachy (4-1) overcame four walks to hold the Cardinals to one run, striking out six as the Braves logged their sixth win in eight games.

Michael Bourn went 3-for-6 with a homer and two RBI. Brian McCann drove in two early runs, helping Atlanta jump off to a 3-0 lead after three innings.

Dan Uggla and Tyler Pastornicky each contributed two hits and RBI in the win, which allowed second-place Atlanta to stay one-half game behind Washington atop the National League East.

Adam Wainwright (2-5) was roughed up for five runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings for NL Central-leading St. Louis.

Rafael Furcal and Allen Craig drove in the Cardinals' runs.
