MLB: Cincinnati 2, Milwaukee 1

MILWAUKEE, May 9 (UPI) -- Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips drove in runs in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday, propelling Cincinnati to a 2-1 win over Milwaukee.

It was Cincinnati Manager Dusty Baker's 1,500th career victory.

Votto ripped a double to right that drove in Drew Stubbs, who had reached on a two-out, broken-bat single. Phillips then drove in Votto with a bloop single to center.

Ryan Braun hit a solo home run to left-center field off Sean Marshall and the Brewers loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but the Reds held on for the win.

After Braun's blast, Marshall got the next two outs before being replaced by Logan Ondrusek after Jonathan Lucroy and pinch-hitter Norichika Aoki singled back-to-back.

Ondrusek walked pinch-hitter George Kottaras to load the bases, then got his first major league save as pinch-hitter Travis Ishikawa popped up to left field.

The loss was tagged on Milwaukee closer John Axford (0-2), who gave up the three key hits after striking out the first two batters he faced in the ninth.
