Knicks' Davis to have knee surgery

NEW YORK, May 7 (UPI) -- New York Knicks guard Baron Davis will have his severely injured right knee surgically repaired this week, the team said Monday.

Davis completely tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in the knee, as well as sustaining a partial tear of the patella tendon.

A magnetic resonance imaging exam performed Monday revealed the extent of the damage, which was sustained during Sunday's Game 4 of the Knicks' Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the Miami Heat.

Davis, 33, injured the knee while driving to the basket with 5:15 remaining in the third quarter.

He had assumed a starting role on the team after guards Jeremy Lin and Iman Shumpert also went down with knee injuries.
