MLB: Oakland 4, Tampa Bay 3 (12 innings)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 5 (UPI) -- Jonny Gomes smacked a 12th-inning, pinch-hit homer Saturday and the Oakland Athletics outlasted Tampa Bay 4-3.

Gomes' shot off Joel Peralta (0-1) landed in the first row of seats in left field, breaking a 3-3 tie. Gomes also made a leaping catch in left-center field off a Carlos Pena drive in the 10th.

Grant Balfour pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 12th for his seventh save.

Brian Fuentes (2-0) picked up the win after wiggling off the hook in the 11th, when Sean Rodriguez led off with a double but ended up stranded at third after Elliot Johnson bunted foul for a third strike on a suicide-squeeze attempt.

Josh Reddick drove in two runs, including a solo homer, as the A's evened their three-game set at Tropicana Field.

Johnson, Pena and Ben Zobrist each socked solo homers for the American League East-leading Rays, who saw their six-game winning streak snapped.
