PHILADELPHIA, April 30 (UPI) -- Placido Polanco's tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning Monday boosted the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
Chicago had forged a 4-4 tie in the top of the frame on Starlin Castro's RBI single and a two-run homer by Bryan LaHair off Chad Qualls (1-0).
Philadelphia came right back when Scott Maine (0-1) hit Juan Pierre with a pitch with one out. Pierre went to third on Jimmy Rollins' single and Polanco then chased both of them home with a double down the left-field line.
Vance Worley allowed only one run over seven innings and Carlos Ruiz contributed a pair of RBI for the Phils, who split a four-game series with the Cubs.
Chicago starter Chris Volstad yielded four runs on eight hits over six full frames.
