MLB: Toronto 7, Seattle 2

TORONTO, April 29 (UPI) -- Edwin Encarnacion hit a tiebreaking homer and Henderson Alvarez turned in a strong start Sunday, boosting Toronto to a 7-2 win over Seattle.

Encarnacion's one-out blast to left field in the sixth inning off Jason Vargas (3-2) broke a 2-2 tie and was his third long ball in three games.

The Blue Jays went on to ice the contest with a five-run eighth, highlighted by Jeff Mathis' two-run clout.

Brett Lawrie also drove in a pair of runs as Toronto claimed the rubber match of a three-game set at Rogers Center.

Alvarez (1-2) logged his second major league win, holding the Mariners to one run on six hits in a six-inning start. He overcame three walks and struck out one in the triumph.

Vargas ended up yielding two runs on four hits over six frames.

Chone Figgins and Miguel Olivo homered for Seattle.
