MLB: New York Yankees 6, Detroit 2

NEW YORK, April 29 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia tamed the Tigers on four hits over eight innings Sunday and the New York Yankees hit a pair of homers in their 6-2 win over Detroit.

Sabathia (3-0) allowed two runs, walked two and struck out eight en route to his third straight victory following a pair of no-decisions to begin the season.

The Yankees left-hander has fanned 38 batters over 35 1/3 innings this season.

Curtis Granderson homered and drove in two runs while Andruw Jones went 2-for-2 with a solo shot as New York claimed the rubber match of their three-game series at Yankee Stadium.

Detroit starter Max Scherzer (1-3) was roughed up for three runs on seven hits in a 4 2/3-inning effort.

Prince Fielder cracked a bases-empty homer for the Tigers.
