CHICAGO, April 28 (UPI) -- Chicago Bulls guard and reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the post-season with a torn knee ligament, the team announced Saturday.

Rose scored 23 points to go with nine rebounds and nine assists in the Bulls' 103-91 playoff-opening win over Philadelphia Saturday.

But he had to be helped off the court with 1:10 left in the game after jump-stopping in the lane while throwing a pass. Rose crumpled to the floor and grabbed his left knee before being taken to the locker room.

He was later diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

"It's part of the game. There are going to be injuries," Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau said. "A guy could get hurt in practice, a guy could get hurt in the first 5 minutes of the game. He can get hurt at the end of the game. He can get hurt any time, and you've got to deal with it."

Nationals call up phenom Harper

WASHINGTON, April 28 (UPI) -- The Washington Nationals announced Saturday they have called up 19-year-old No. 1 draft choice Bryce Harper from Class AAA Syracuse.

Harper, the top overall pick in the 2010 draft, was called up to replace third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right shoulder.

Harper's major league debut has been much anticipated since spring training, when he was assigned to start the season in the minors.

He hit .286 in nine spring games for the Nationals and followed that up by batting .250 with one homer and three RBI over 20 games for Syracuse.

Washington held first place in the National League East with a 14-6 record entering Saturday's game against the NL West-leading Dodgers at Los Angeles.

Tigers' Young put on restricted list

NEW YORK, April 28 (UPI) -- The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Delmon Young on the restricted list Saturday after he was arrested in connection with an alleged anti-Semitic incident.

Young, 26, was missing from the Tigers' lineup against the New York Yankees Friday following his arrest in New York on a misdemeanor aggravated harassment charge in which police allege the player attacked a man after yelling an anti-Semitic slur.

The Tigers in a statement issued Saturday indicated Young will be evaluated next week under terms of baseball's labor agreement.

Police allege an intoxicated Young got into a confrontation with a group of four men at the Hilton New York hotel 2:30 a.m. Friday, after the men were seen talking to panhandler wearing a yarmulke outside the hotel, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Young allegedly yelled "you bunch of (expletive) Jews" and pushed one of the men to the ground.

The outfielder was taken to a hospital to detoxify and later was booked into jail and released on $5,000 bond, the newspaper said.

"I sincerely regret what happened last night," Young said in a statement, going on to apologize to the Tigers and their fans.
