CINCINNATI, April 24 (UPI) -- Mat Latos baffled the Giants through seven shutout innings Tuesday, staking the Cincinnati Reds to a 9-2 spanking of San Francisco.
Latos (1-2) earned his first victory with Cincinnati since coming to the Reds in a December trade with San Diego. The 24-year-old right-hander gave up four hits, walked two and fanned three.
Brandon Phillips drove in three with a two-run homer and a bases-loaded walk while Jay Bruce went 2-for-3 with a two-run double during the Reds' six-run seventh inning.
Scott Rolen collected two RBI as Cincinnati logged a win in its return home following a 4-6 road trip.
San Francisco's Matt Cain (1-1) was dealt his first loss of the season, yielding three runs on five hits in a 6 1/3-inning effort.
Buster Posey broke up a shutout with a two-run homer in the ninth for the Giants.
