LONDON, April 24 (UPI) -- Host Great Britain was drawn in a group with world No. 3 Uruguay ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games men's soccer competition, event officials said Tuesday.
Great Britain, which includes players from No. 7-ranked England, is in Group A with Senegal and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to Uruguay.
Great Britain is a three-time Olympic gold medalist in soccer, having won in 1900, 1908 -- when the Games were in London -- and 1912. Uruguay took gold in 1924 and 1928.
Current world No. 1 and World Cup holder Spain, which won in 1992 when the Games were in Barcelona, is the only other gold-medal winning team in the 2012 field. Spain is in Group D with Honduras, Japan and Morocco.
Group B consists of Gabon, Mexico, South Korea and Switzerland.
The teams in Group C include Belarus, Brazil, Egypt and New Zealand.
The teams will play round-up games in their groups with the top two in each group advancing to the knockout phase.
The gold medal game is scheduled for Aug. 11 in London's Wembley Stadium.
