KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 22 (UPI) -- Brett Lawrie highlighted a big fifth inning with a two-run single Sunday and the Toronto Blue Jays logged a third straight win, 5-3 over Kansas City.
After Yunel Escobar and Jose Bautista each delivered run-scoring hits off Danny Duffy (1-2), the bases were loaded when Lawrie punched a two-run single through the right side of the infield, making it 4-0 Toronto.
Ricky Romero (3-0) claimed his third win in four starts, holding the Royals to two runs on five hits over eight frames. The left-hander issued a pair of walks and struck out five.
Francisco Cordero earned his first save of the season despite allowing a run in the ninth.
Duffy lasted 4 2/3 innings, yielding four runs on five hits and five walks as the Royals endured a team-record 10th straight home loss and 10th consecutive setback overall.
Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 with an RBI single for Kansas City.
