DETROIT, April 22 (UPI) -- Alberto Gonzalez laid down a bases-loaded bunt single in the 11th inning Sunday, boosting the Texas Rangers to a 3-2 win over Detroit.
The Rangers loaded the bases with none out in the 11th off rookie reliever Thad Weber (0-1), who was making his major-league debut.
Nelson Cruz took off from third on a suicide squeeze play as Gonzalez put down a bunt to the left of the mound, and Cruz crossed the plate easily while Weber fielded the roller.
Detroit's Miguel Cabrara failed to cover first on the play and the pitcher held onto the ball, giving Gonzalez a tie-breaking RBI single.
Joe Nathan came on to collect his fourth save while Robbie Ross (3-0) earned the victory for the Rangers, who improved to 13-3 and took 3-of-4 games from the Tigers.
Drew Smyly pitched well for Detroit in his third major league start, holding the Rangers to one run on five hits over six innings.
Brennan Boesch homered for the Tigers.
